How to Get Around Ocean City
Getting around in Ocean City is as easy as putting one foot in front of the other! It may come in the form of a stroll on the beach, down the boardwalk or stepping onto one of the local trams that service the boardwalk area. The most popular way to get around Ocean City is by car, and if you're planning to fly into the area, you'll want to do yourself a favor and rent a car for transportation to and from your hotel destination. Once you're settled in, however, a new world of transportation options will be available to you.Getting Around Ocean City by Car
There are few places that are so easy to navigate as Ocean City. Ocean City is what is known as a land spit -- if you drive west, you'll reach one of the bays, and if you drive east, welcome to the Atlantic Ocean. You will always have incredible geographical and architectural landmarks to reference if you feel lost at any point while touring Ocean City in an automobile. City maps are available for purchase locally or online.
The Ocean City Boardwalk Tram
You can't miss the blue and white trams that look like they belong in an amusement park. They are absolutely perfect for getting from one end of the boardwalk to the other, or hitting specific locations in between the two points. Upon leaving your Ocean City hotel during the summer months, the Boardwalk Tram runs seven days a week from 10 a.m. until midnight, and tram fare never tops $3 for a one-way ride. If you plan to use the tram as a frequent mode of transportation, be sure to inquire about discounted fares at either of the tram stations.
Hike It or Bike It in Ocean City
Due to the pleasant sea breezes, you'll never find yourself in serious heat or discomfort, even during the Ocean City summer months. Such pleasant weather makes walking or riding a bicycle the perfect way to explore areas such as the beach and boardwalk. There are designated paths for biking, which actually make two wheeling an incredibly efficient mode of transportation. If you don't plan to bring a bicycle, you'll find several local beach shops offer beach cruisers and a few tandems for half day, full-day and weekly rates.
It is so easy to get around during Ocean City vacations that you may feel as if you're an honorary resident by vacation's end. If you do happen to get lost, just remember: calm waters west -- waved waters east. Once you're there, you can face the proper direction and get exactly to where you need to go!
