Plan the Perfect Tahiti Cruise Vacation

As the ship makes its way through the warm waters of the South Pacific, you take a moment from catching a few rays to look at the horizon. Before you, there is a gorgeous backdrop of mountainous outcroppings, verdant rainforests and beautiful beaches. You're entering the French Polynesian Islands, better known as Tahiti.

While taking a flight to Tahiti is a great way to see the islands, choosing a cruise vacation to Tahiti adds an entirely different experience to your trip. Luxurious cabins, delicious cuisine, tasty drinks and plenty of activities are just some of the things you can experience, and that's before you even get to Tahiti! If you're looking for the ultimate way to see the South Pacific, here's how to plan the perfect Tahiti cruise vacation.

Planning a Tahiti Cruise

One of the first things you have to think about is how many people are going on the cruise. Is it a romantic getaway for two or is it a family excursion? Since some cruise lines don't allow smaller children on board, you should definitely find out before making your reservations.

Next, you should figure out when you want to take the Tahiti cruise. Rates are traditionally much less expensive during the spring and fall months, simply because there are less people traveling during those times. You can grab an inexpensive room and if you're lucky, you may get bumped up to a more luxurious one.

If cost is still an issue, then there are two ways to reduce the price even further. You can usually save money by booking your cruise at least six months in advance, or you can wait for a great deal and try to book the cruise immediately before it sets sail. However, if you wait until the last minute to try and save, you could ultimately lose the cruise altogether if it is already fully booked, so keep that risk in mind when you plan your Tahiti travel.

Configuring Your Tahiti Cruise

How you will configure your Tahiti cruise will be up to you. One thing you will have to consider is the time you will be taking your meals, more specifically, your dinner. While most cruise ships have open breakfasts and lunches, dinners are usually scheduled. Most ships feature three dinner times. These include an early seating around six p.m., a late dinner around 8:30 p.m. and an open dinner between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m., whichever one you want to attend is dependant upon your lifestyle. Of course, if you're on one of the islands and you’re scheduled for the early dinner, you may be forced to cut your time short in order to get back on board in time! On the other hand, if you enjoy your dinner later, then you could possibly miss part of the nightly show if you don't finish your dinner in time.

You should also check your ship's itinerary before you pack for your trip. Usually, one or two nights of your cruise will be dedicated to a more formal dress code, requiring you to wear a jacket and tie, or an evening gown to dinner. Although many cruise ships have relaxed the dress code somewhat in recent years, you may still feel out of place if you're not prepared for it.
