Planning Your Singapore Travel Intinerary

How could a small island have so much to do? Truth be told, without a game plan, you would be just fine on the island of Singapore. It is a place that will present travel adventures to the adventure seeker, by simply walking down the street. However, if you want to make the most of your time in this tropical environment, it won't hurt to plan ahead. For starters, set any fears about safety aside. That isn't to say that you should check your common sense at the front door of your Singapore hotel, but Singapore is one of the safest places in the world, thanks to strict law enforcement. So mind your P's and Q's, and be on your most "touristy" behavior.

Enjoying The Tropical Island

If you enjoy water sports or consider yourself a sun baby, then you'll definitely want to find a local beach to make your own for the duration of your stay. This can be a big part of planning an affordable Singapore vacation. Located a mere 85 miles north of the earth's Equator, you'll enjoy a tropical climate of warm temperatures and high humidity. If you've never tried canoeing, sea kayaking, snorkeling or even scuba diving, then here's your golden opportunity. Of course, you can find any activity available related to sea life, whether you want to rent a wave runner to go fast, or crash-out under a palm tree in a hammock to take it slow.

Exploring the Nearby Nations

Singapore will offer you a wonderful exploration base if you want to hop across the Singapore Straight to enjoy the culture of Indonesia, or take a quick train ride north, into the Malay Peninsula to see what Malaysia has to offer. Needless to say, you'll be surrounded by other nations that are easily accessible for day-trips or multi-day touring opportunities. If your schedule is open at this point, you may find that two to three days in Malaysia, and at least one day in Indonesia will complement your Singapore vacation nicely.

Singapore and Only Singapore

If you catch a cheap flight to Singapore, and desire to stay on the island, don't think you'll run out of things to do. Many people are surprised to learn that Singapore has a highly developed business culture that enjoys a cityscape reminiscent of the contemporary Western world. With that being said, you'll have no problem finding the modern comforts and amenities you may view as a necessity, whether it's Internet access or mass transit. In the same breath, it's worth mentioning that around every corner, you'll be reminded that you are seemingly a world away from "home."

If you love to shop, at the Orchard Road you'll find the shopping district will feed your fix, figuratively and literally. Great shops are found in the mix with great restaurants, and offer something unique for each visitor. To get a better idea of how popular the area is, imagine the shopping centers, malls and independent retailers of several cities put into one geographic area, and you've got Orchard Road.

Take advantage of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) to save money on your island transportation expenses. Buses are also used frequently and are reliable and efficient ways to get you from point "A" to point "B." If you enjoy taking guided tours, your hotel concierge will be able to assist you in finding a quality tour available at a quality price. And when all else fails, remember, you're in a new place with hundreds of adventures to choose from -- just take a walk and see what is presented!
