NW is it worth the trip?I have been to NM several times since my sister moved there the winters can be very cold and the summers very hot the downtown area is small and there is not much to do. I must say that lately it seems there has been a lot of new construction and shopping malls and shopping over all has improved a lot. Do I think is worth the trip? definately NOT. I have also been several times to Santa Fe and I really dont believe the place is that special. I must say I have been to just about every tourist city in the USA Europe and South America so I speak with some knowledge. If it wasnt for my family I would never visit that State. There are plenty of other more beautiful places to visit!!

I was in Albuquerque in April and despite the description in the travel guide of it being a temperate climate the weather can be unpredictable and I was surprised at hold cold it was (it snowed while I was there) so if you're expecting a warm desert destination in the winter I wouldn't go here. It must have to do with the altitude as its pretty far south on the map. It must have to do with the altitude as its pretty far south on the map. I had some good southwestern food while I was there (lots of chilies) and took an interesting walk along the mighty Rio Grande (tongue in cheek - the river is little more than a creek. I was shocked at how small it is). Albuquerque is cool to fly into its kinda nestled between two mountain ranges so the view of the topography from the air is memorable. Also a good side trip is Sante Fe which is a couple hours due north and a steady climb to an even higher altitude. Oh and for fans of Bugs Bunny cartoons I did see a Road Runner. Apparently they are quite prevalent there.

One of the most wonderful things do do in Albuquerque is to take the tram up to Sandia Peak for a massive panoramic view of the Albuquerque valley. The best time to visit is near dusk so you can see the sunset in spring/summer. And grab dinner (make reservations) at the High Finanance Restaurant at the summit. You won't be disappointed.... More
