At nite particularly from the Volcano Lodge the view of hot rocks and ash tumbling down the volcano is breathtaking. Volcano Lodge's restaurant serves beautifully prepared food at a reasonable price. Drinks are reasonable and good too. Tabacon is luxurious and more costly. The hot springs and accompanying gardens are inviting and invigorating. The beautiful plants and abundant wildlife provide beauty and a sense of the exotic. The pools are nice as are the many facilities at the hot springs. The restaurant has excellent food and the breakfast buffet has everything a person could want. Optional adventures (from either place)include ziplining horseback riding hiking river tours whitewater rafting and more. The town of La Fortuna is friendly and has nice little shops. There are bicycles to rent also and nice little restaurants.Taxi travel from hotels or in town is easy and hotels will arrange travel and are most helpful in helping guests get where they want to go.

Arenal is a sleepy town on the northeast corner of Lake Arenal. It serves as a good home base for exploring the lake the nearby mountains and Lake Arenal. We had quite the adventure getting here as the paved road that goes up & around the lake was washed out but it was worth it. Found a great hotel (Hotel Lago Arenal) and enjoyed the pace of this town after a few chaotic days on the beach. Don't plan on a lot to see & do in the town itself but use it as a welcoming place to recharge the batterie... More
