6.SKI IN A TOWN NOT A RESORT

There are five ski TOWNS in Colorado (ie a history with cowboys and silver mining that predates the establishment of the ski industry): Aspen Telluride Breckenridge Steamboat and Crested Butte. These places are more charming historic and centralized which means easy to walk around. There are five ski TOWNS in Colorado (ie a history with cowboys and silver mining that predates the establishment of the ski industry): Aspen Telluride Breckenridge Steamboat and Crested Butte. These places are more charming historic and centralized which means easy to walk around. The others like Vail or Beaver Creek (or anything in Utah for that matter) are resorts which means they were obstensively created in the sixties or seventies following in many instances a Disneyesque phony planning structure. Observe the Austrian-village facade theme that prevades Vail-an incongruous hodgepodge of insipid cookie cutter condo complexes surrounding the pseudo-Austrian strasse. The skiing is slightly better in Vail though if that's all you're after. Otherwise go bold and go ASPEN. It's not cheap but offers the best restaurants nightlife art galleries and shopping of any of the others hands down and you can walk everywhere! The summers in Aspen are almost better but get there in June July or August!

Aspen is a cheesy turd hole. Anyone that thinks is nice has more money than sense. Its poorly built over priced and a center for exploitation and conspicuious consumption. If it where not for a readily exploitable source of illeagle alliens that dump would implode tomarrow. If you enjoy paying alot and not getting much you ought to love this place. If you have alot of money and dont care if you flush it down the toilet you will love this place. All of the locals call the place \ A@#hole Colorad... More

Winter skiing is the best with choices of 4 mountains to choose from. Cross Country skiing is no better anywhere with full access to White River Nat. Forest to city groomed trails. Night life is fantastic but you have to know where to eat. Try talking to locals to find the best spots. The X Games World Cup competitions and Winterskol are the highlights of the winter. The entire town has an international feel with famous visitors and famous residents from actors authors musician as everyday neighbors. Then try the quiet side with a sleigh ride on the east end of town at night under a full moon with diamond reflections in the snow with only the sound of your horses breath and beat of his hooves. Try local guest ranch to snowmobile and horseback ride and hay rides and dinner in a high mountain cabin Now summer: white water rafting endless 4x4 roads trails Aspen Music Festival and Aspen Institue with visiting speakers like present and past presidents professors authors scientist from around the world. Boring you say? Try Jazz in the Park Aspen Wine and Food classic yearly air show Lier Jet Club Car shows. Historic tours of Smuggler Mtn mine. Then travel by car to the local small towns like Redstone where you are taken back 100 years in time Glenwood Springs CO. with the world's largest mineral Hot Springs Pool and the Glenwood Caverns that you can enter deep in the earth to view caverns that are still being discovered along with their rides through the pines and dinner on the high mountain restaurant over looking the entire valley. Try sailing on Ruedi Reservoir of fish on several Gold medal trout streams throught the Roaring Fork Valley. Please if you want to ever call Aspen boring email me and get a locals person to help you in your visit.
