3 visits to Aswan and I believe that the Terrace of the Old Cataract Hotel is one of the most romantic places in the world. Yes, Abu Simbel must be seen, however, Aswan itself has much to see. This is THE site not to be missed in Egypt. It is easy to imagine ancient ruins and when one visits them in person, they are not as large or impressive as the ones conjured in the imagination. Egypt is the exception. Everything is larger, grander, and more magnificent than one imagines. And Abu Simbal is the one site that is absolutely not to be missed in Egypt: hard to get to, impossible to understand, but absolutely worth any effort.
