My wife, teen daughter and I went to Greece as part of a tour package. We found the people to be super friendly in all the market places as well as on the streets, they seemed to genually care about us and not just out to make a buck. The history is spectacular, we also went ot Olympia and Delphi and an island tour including Hydra where we walked to a "beach" stone platform on the Agean to swim, the water was beautiful. All side trips were worth the time to get to. We had also gone to Ital

I am pleased with the reviews presented. They are overwhelmingly favorable, and I have little to add. In any country you visit be polite, appreciative and patient. Learn a dozen useful words : a respectful salutation, please, thank you, yes, no, where is ... ? How much is it ? the subway, the toilet, a physician, the bill ( please), etc. Read a guidebook you like ahead of time, plan what you're going to do and take the guidebook and a map with you. If you want to see where it all pretty much began, this is definately one of the places you must go. Take your walking shoes you will need them. Places to see: Parthenon, National Archeological museum, Benaki museum... Go to Delhpi - it's a day trip and is well worth the money. It's a very large city with much hustle and bustle. Another excellent day trip is to the little island of Hydra, no vehicular traffic here, they move around by mule or poney - very beautiful. It's a wonderful place t

I visited Athens twice - loved it each time. the sites, music, foods, and above all, the people are worth the trip. There are many things to do and places to go, depending on your taste. Best advice; go with a group. Single women travelers, beware! It is best to travel with a group. (Visited in 1975)
