1.Disappointing Considering the Price
The Hotel: The rooms were average at best, which was surprising given that we paid $1400 for two rooms/two nights. Check in/check out was relatively easy, though the staff was shockingly surly (this was a theme through out the weekend). The ice machines on the floor were constantly empty (as well as the machines on the floors below and above). Check in/check out was relatively easy, though the staff was shockingly surly (this was a theme through out the weekend). The ice machines on the floor were constantly empty (as well as the machines on the floors below and above). Upon arrival, we discovered a roach in the bathroom and a puddle of (what I hope was) water around the toilet. For the amount of money we paid, problems like these should not have occurred. The Quarter: The real highlight of the trip. Nice selection of restaurants and shops, if a bit pricey. (I paid almost $20 with tax/tip for a turkey sandwich and a water at Cuba Libre). We loved Tinderbox, the wine and cigar store. Be careful buying cigars though. Apparently, you are not allowed to smoke them anywhere in the building, incuding the smoking sections. The Casino: A real disappointment. I have never in my life received such terrible customer service from hospitality staff. The hotel employees, the cocktail servers, and the pit bosses were consistently inattentive, indifferent, and downright rude. You would have a better chance of finding a Republican that loves all things French than you would a cocktail waitress while seated at the poker tables. At one point, having lost several large bets in a row on the roulette table, I made a joke to the pit boss about needing a drink. His response? "I don't know where she is"...and he walked away (not in an attempt to find her). Overall: I will NEVER set foot in this hotel or casino again. Between the rooms, food, drinks, and gambling my friends and I spent about $10,000 for the weekend and we were treated like garbage the entire time. I've had better customer service from places with drive-thrus.
