Austin is for people who can't afford a real city 
I've been to Austin numerous times (never really by choice). I find it boring and completely overrated. I do like the Whole Foods flagship store, however. Maybe if I were in college and wanted to be drunk all the time I could convince myself it was a fun place. Yuck, it's third rate, at best. I'll take NY, LA, SF, DC, Boston, ANYWHERE over Austin!
