âWhere do we go for our honeymoon?â This question had been troubling my fiancée and me ever since we got engaged. One thing was for sure we wanted to go abroad. Indonesia Mauritius Maldives and a host of other countries crossed our radar. Our main consideration was that we wanted lush green surrounding us wherever we went. We found a perfect match in the hill country of Sri Lanka which is endowed with a cool climate thriving forest and undulating hills covered with tea plantations. We arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake about 20 miles from central Colombo in the middle of the night. We wondered what adventure awaited us; how many bombs weâd have to dodge until we reached Grand Oriental in Colombo. Many dissuaded us from making this trip. The more they did so the more mystical it seemed to us.Having just 2 baggages we got through the formalities pretty quick and exchanged currency. We were greeted by our Lankan guide Fernando who drove us into the enchanting world of lost natural beauty. We kept to the room on our first day as the demanding marriage celebrations had taken a toll on our stamina. We looked forward to six power â packed days that was to be iced with enticing greenery. We left for Kandy which was three hours away. The heat lured us to the orange king coconuts that dotted the road. The sweet water was like elixir for our parched mouth. On the way we stopped at the Elephant Orphanage. An orphanage for elephants seemed quiet an exciting proposition. As we walked towards the huge water space we saw elephants basking in glory playing with mates; lost in their own world. Their playfulness reminded us of our childhood which seemed so distant. On our way back we entered a government handicraft shop. The furniture and artifacts on display were out of the world. So much so we instantly purchased an easy chair that caught our fancy the instant we set our eyes on it.Being a haven for spices how could we miss a trip
