Sam Lords Castle Resort Barbados, Caribbean

Overall Rating:

Barbados, the easternmost Caribbean Island, has the advantage of being just outside of hurricane range, for the most part. Decidedly British and sophisticated, Barbados is a beautiful island, ...more

In Oct of 2005 we went to a timeshare (RCI Exchange) on the southern tip of the island. Well after 3 days at what is marketed as luxury (I'd rate it as "zero") we left after getting a reservation at Accra Beach Hotel.Lets start by saying the roads in this squalor pit are atrocious at best. From entering at customs to leaving we were treated at best indifferent and mostly down right rude. And we are white and always acted "please thank you etc".

The hotel which we paid full boat for was certainly nice but no way was it 4 star and the staff where jerks to the core. I have been to some of the rudest places on earth (Belgium France Seychelles) and this place takes the cake. When asked by the only kind person we met (the pool bartender at Accra) if we'd come back we said "not a chance in hell" The beaches are a joke (20 feet wide at Accra and most where the same) the roads crumbling the restaurants decrepit and the people rude and pushy. Go to the South Pacific or even Seychelles (prettiest place on the planet) but stay away from Tijuana in the Caribbean.

lolI find the "miserable American" statement hilarious.
Surely this comes from a cold rude indifferent northern euro. Maybe you are happy with this type of treatment because this is how you act in daily business. The difference in euro attitude can be found in the 8 hour drive from Dusseldorf to Munich. Munchen are kind and warm like most southern euros. Barbados had the aire of No. European. Long pants must be worn to the hotel restaurant??? Ridiculous.Never once greeted with a smile by the more than dozen restaurants and bars we went to. NOT ONCE IN 7 DAYS.
In fact the hostess at the Accra restaurant merely pointed in the direction of some tables while grunting "over there" to seat us. We were appalled at every turn on the rudeness of its peoples.Mind you this is 4 years removed. I have better memories of our Belgian GP Formula 1 trip. The 10 days in Seychelles where paradise compared to this squalor pit.
Amazing how some find us miserable yet love our money and can't wait to visit or live here!!!We welcome you with open arms no matter how rudecold or indifferent you are.

Southern BarbadosThe Silver Sands Resort is off the typical travel hustle and bustle but the hotel was very nice for a 3 star rating. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Bring your hair dryer and wine/beer opener. Mini market on the grounds was very reasonable and handy. The beach is rougher than further north on the west coast but not impossible to swim in. The pools were lovely. The property was very clean the staff especially Monica in the front office went out of their way to make our 16th anniversary vacation memorable. Hint - keep your bath room door closed to get the most from the AC. King bed was very nice. Good water pressure while showering. October is the #1 rainy month and we had plenty of rain but between cabs mini bus' and big bus' we were able to get around even if we couldn't swim as much as we would have liked or horseback ride on the beach. Dinner and bar prices avg. $25.00US p/p with $3.US Banks Beer and $4. for rum and coke. There are very good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. My favorite The Sticky Wicket Great Food reasonable priced and clean as a whistle. Excellent flying fish etc. Walk out the hotel drive turn right and within 4 min you will be looking at a pink building that is the restaurant. Ricky & Oceita are the owners. Phone 246-254-5000. Hint buy the small bottle of rum and get soda & ice on the side saves you $$$ where ever you go for beverages. Walk to Surfers Bay.Phone 262-5483 Owner Steve has a nightly happy hour very good nightly buffets as well as al la carte menu. Gigi's is also a walk but pricey and make sure to check your bill for errors they do not take a charge card. Chicken Rita's is just a short hop from Surfers Bay. Enjoy Happy Hour w/Steve he will call Rita @ 428-6873 so she can start your chicken for you. Chicken and chips is all that is served both are to die for and reasonable! Another local is Buffy's Bar. You need a $5.US taxi ride to get here food delicious and you can eat what and with the local Ba
