We drove up there from St. Louis in August 2008. Bayfiled was great stayed in hotel with great lake view. Take the 3 hour tour well worth iut. RASBERRIES up there are great we became addictaed to Rasberry Butter (think Apple Butter). On the way the Nordski Nook is a great resturant for PIE!!!!! Also do not miss the National Fishing Museum with 300 foot long fiberglass pike! A great time for family great area tubing spots all over nice people small breweries and cheese factories! wow... More

For 30 years I have been hanging out around the Bayfield/Ashland area. Always has been my favorite spot on earth. I have traveled the world been on every continent including the polar caps at least twice. And I always find my way to this area for the sheer solitude and beauty of cruising in a hotrod along the lake. Crossing from Bayfield to Madeline is always a high point for me. Something about being on a body of water the size of an ocean when you're land locked is pretty kewl. I probably ... More

I'm grounded to this place on the planet.....Thanks

Bayfield may be the best kept secret in the Midwest. The town is enchanting beautiful and full of fun things to do. A ferry runs every half hour to Madeleine Island and there are boats which can take a visitor out for the day to see the Apostle Islands. Fishermen can easily charter a boat for fishing. Although Lake Superior is chilly to put it mildly there are gorgeous beaches a few miles out of town. If you can't book a room at the Rittenhouse at least try to eat there. Fantastic! Maggie's is also a popular spot. Give yourself a treat and put Bayfield on the list of places to go!

WIIt is a gem in the wilderness. And the wilderness is awesome! Continues to be voted the \Best Little Town in the mid-west.\Google Greunke's First Street Inn. Not one single stop light in this town.Treat yourself to old fashion terrific simple dining. I recommend the \Fisherman Platter\ for breakfast--Wow. You must try sauteed or fried whitefish livers. Not one single stop light in this town.Treat yourself to old fashion terrific simple dining. I recommend the \Fisherman Platter\ for breakfast--Wow. You must try sauteed or fried whitefish livers. I didn't know fish had livers. I talked to the owner Lokken-Strom and was told the soups are made fresh daily as well as the pies. The berries are delivered from a local Bayfield farm. I love this place. If I am not mistaken Greunke's First Street Inn is one of the oldest restaurants in the region...built in 1863. Original 1940's (?) Wurlitzer Juke Box. Ice cream soda fountain. And by the way John F. Kennedy Jr. stayed overnight in one of Greunke's quaint Victorian rooms. Lokken-Strom told me he had to room with one of his buddies and use the communal bathroom in the hall. He was a real sport about it as Greunke's had only one room available. The people are so friendly. If you have the time try and meet some of the Ojibwe Indians. Your will walk away enriched by their oral history and culture.I must stop as I am beginning to get in a \Bayfield state of mind.\ I must replenish my spirit and get back there some day some how.
