The most wonderful thing that really blows my mind is the city's culture. Countless historic tourists' attractions beautiful Hutongs & quadrangle courtyards delicious food & also modern facilities. Beijing is a combination of antiquity & modernity which is essential part of its culture. Everything is so perfect that one of the hotel that once I lived which is a quadrangle courtyard hotel named Jihousecn Hotel left me a great impression by their cultural decoration tradional lifestyle & top service.
All in all Beijing is a city that is worth visiting. Don't hesitate to come here and enjoy the same joy as me.

Plus the quadrangle courtyard hotel Jihousecn Hotel is really good. Give you guys their website. www.jihousecn.com

I visited Beijing in 2004 when preparations for the olympics had just started. While there is definitely a pollution problem the cost of living at that time was cheap and the dollar went a long way. I visited Beijing in 2004 when preparations for the olympics had just started. While there is definitely a pollution problem the cost of living at that time was cheap and the dollar went a long way. My husband was there on business and I went and had a personal tour guide I saw all attractions plus I had meals in real chinese places where the food was great and when we dined on our own we dined in good restaurants with good value. One thing that was strange was when I was at the wall (and I was warned of this.!) many chinese wanted to get their picture with me because of my light eyes (I declined!) I do feel that there is alot of poverty in China and people try to make it look as if things are great because they are modern. But you still get the impression that there is limited freedom and that many people wanted to leave China but weren't able. Water is not drinkable and I watched somebody cleaning a bathroom in a restaurant use the same rag for toilets as well as on the sink! yuck! Needless to say I had my own hand washing waterless soap. Sites were amazing and shopping was fabulous! You do have to bargain but it is worth it!

Went to China in 1983 and then in 2006. What a change and not all for the better! !983's visit was to a far less industrialized but much more beautiful China! I saw Quilin Canton etc. on that trip and I was blown away by the beauty! The last rip however was kind of sad. That was in 2006 and we saw Shanghai the Yangtze River cruise and Beijing. The cities of Shanghai and Beijing were swept away in commercial greed...nature and air quality be damned. We could barely see the sky and it was still in a relatively cool month...April. Features like the Great Wall were treated as a commercial orgy...you could barely get a photo of the wall without someone selling something to you popping up in the phots...trinket stands and things right up on the wall itself! The food was strange and they do eat everything there and they kill many animals for food in very cruel ways. I don't think they have much feeling for animals or their own people's well-being either. The beauty and natural wonder of the counrty is really being destroyed...much is beyond salvaging already.
