Not only is Beijing known as the home of the 2008 Summer Olympics, it is also the cultural capital of China. With a population of over 12 million people, Beijing is the second largest city in China. Beijing, sometimes called Peking, is known for the famous Peking Duck dish that requires specific cooking and cutting instructions, featuring crispy skin and tender meat. Beijing is a wildly popular tourist city, attracting millions each year to nearby sites like the Great Wall and TianAnMen Square.

Because of the massive tourism, there are no shortages of Beijing hotels, either. One of the most popular Beijing hotels is the Shangri La Hotel, featuring a surprisingly peaceful Chinese garden. The Peninsula Beijing is within walking distance of the Forbidden Palace, and boasts the best customer service in the hospitality industry.

The Raffles Beijing, is also near the Forbidden Palace and is one of the oldest Beijing hotels, built in the early 1900s. The Swissotel Beijing Hong Kong Macau Center is an award-winning five star hotel in the heart of the business district. The St. Regis Beijing redefines luxury, with a personal butler service and a lush outdoor garden, in the midst of Beijing's business district.

Tourists will have difficulty deciding where to go first. Beijing offers a wealth of attractions. The aforementioned Great Wall of China is only about an hour drive away from Beijing. It's the largest man-made structure on earth, and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Another must-see location is the Forbidden City, a spectacular palace that was home to China's Qing and Ming dynasties. No trip to Beijing would be complete without a trip to TianAnMen Square, the world's largest open square, containing historical monuments and a museum. The Temple of Heaven is China's largest sacrificial temple.

Beijing is one of the places you must visit. It's a city with 4000 years of history, and a richness of culture that's unparalleled.
