While Belize City is not a most beautiful destination in the world it is not as bad as many make it out to be. The people are very friendly and there are some very neat spots to check out. Would I walk alone at night in the city...probably not but during the day if you travel with someone you shouldn't have any problems.... More

Belize city and San Pedro Sula are the two armpits of Central America. Both areas should be traveled through as quickly as possilbe to get to the great diving and eco-zones outside the city hubs. Especially now Belize City has a ;lot of crime and I consider it an unsafe destination... More

3.Belize is Very Poor

Belize is a poor country - this is very disturbing since it is an English holding. Children only go to school free until age 14 - after that if a family can afford it only the boys go to school. Money isn't \wasted\ on girls to attend school. Belize City should have plenty of money as ADM one of the world's wealthiest corporations is hugely prominent there but it's not - it's poverty is everywhere you look. The people the drug problems the ghettos and hundreds of animals with horrible infest... More

Money isn't \wasted\ on girls to attend school. Belize City should have plenty of money as ADM one of the world's wealthiest corporations is hugely prominent there but it's not - it's poverty is everywhere you look. The people the drug problems the ghettos and hundreds of animals with horrible infestations of fleas run the streets emaciated and sick. Belize shores are dirty. You cannot go out into the water wihtout getting tangled up in plastic six-pack containers bags and all manner of garbage. It is GROSS. As for the cave tubing and diving - the guides for this are slaves for the State. Belizeans have been told to \be nice\ to the tourists. In order to work in the tourist industry people must apply for licenses. They work their asses off for very little profit. I talked to one kid who was only 24 and his bones were already wearing out from pulling hundreds of pounds for divers every day. He has no future except to make tourists happy. When he is too old to do this it will be too bad for him and the thousands just like him. He does not even own his boat - he has to rent it from the State. Parts of Belize look like modern Florida except the *********** are even larger than Palmetto bugs. Alligators are everywhere too. Iguanas cross the roads at will. The people are nice extremely hardworking and speak English. The pyramids are lovely. But I can't take the exploitation of a country and its people. I will probably never go there again unless it is in a humanitarian capacity.

5.There's more to Belize than the City

Unlike most places where the City is the hot spot you poor people missed out. Belize has so many wonderful tropical and super plush places that are not in the city. Next time don't cruise like most cruises the ports are always the ugliest places to visit instead try a real vacation and do some island hopping get out of your box and really see what this beautiful and cultural country has to offer it's not disneyland it's paradise!!!!... More
