Bologna is a fascinating city for a two or three day visit. The Western World's oldes university, the University of Bologna is located in the heart of the Old City with many of the buildings having housed it for many centuries. The cobble stone streets within the walls of the Old City are covered so that one can almost walk most anywhere within the walls in the rain without getting wet. The city is dotted with many beautiful ancient churches. People in Bologna are invariably friendly and polite but only a small percentage speak English. Be sure and visit the Basilica di San Petronio which has 22 small chapels, all beautifully decorated with Renaissance art. Also, for a fascinating view, climb the 490 step winding stairway to the top of the Asinelli tower. The city is filled with excellent restaurants. I have made several stops there in my European visits and enjoyed every one.
