A 330-acre coastal wetlands sanctuary, which extends along the east side of Pacific Coast Highway from Warner Avenue to Seapoint Avenue; Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is home to almost 200 species of birds, including snowy plovers, peregrine falcons, clapper rails and California least turns. The largest remaining salt marsh in Southern California, which is home to a variety of marine life, can also be seen. Though open to foot traffic, for those wanting a tour, the volunteer support group, Amigos de Bolsa Chica, offers wetlands tours the first Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. while the Bolsa Chica Land Trust offers public tours from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month. The Bolsa Chica Conservancy Interpretive Center offers tours, presentations, and field labs. It holds service days on the last Saturday of each month. Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is open daily from sunrise to sunset.
