Founded in 1628, the capital of Barbados has developed into a sophisticated destination for international business and leisure travelers. The third oldest Parliament of the British Commonwealth (1639) faces National Heroes Square and The Careenage, a natural harbor which serves the boating community. Bargain hunters will love the duty-free shops of Broad Street. Here you will also find all major commercial banks and several restaurants. On the western side of the city is the Cruise Terminal, and the Bridgetown Port. Other landmarks include:St Michael's Cathedral, the Nidhe Israel Synagogue, the Carnegie Library, Queen's Park, the Central Bank and the Law Courts.
