We went to Budapest this summer and had a great time. The Parliament was amazing to see as was the castle district. We saw a cave church which was quite amazing. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND a boat trip at night as the lighted buildings were beautiful. BUT BEWARE OF THE TAXI DRIVERS as they rip you off with high prices and rigged meters. I was charged more than double the regular fare and the driver got mad when i didnt have enough money and wanted to drive me to an atm. That really puts a damp... More

So we just asked before getting in cab how much it will cost if too high we walked away. Recommend staying in a hotel near river so you won't need a taxi. Have fun

Beautiful city. Unlike most of the former USSR controlled countried this city survived with great character. Visited prior to the wall coming down and even at that time there were no visible presence of Russian troops. Sure however the KGB was watching! Great place to visit.... More

4.Budapest - Pretty but Weird

I lived in Budapest recently and found it to be a magnificent city with excellent food and great night time live music etc but people there are quite standoffish and a little arrogant.Having said that it is a cheap place to visit and has so much to see and do.Try the following placesNegro near the beautiful Szent Isztvan Cathedral for drinks Kafe Kor is the best Hungarian cafe and it is around the corner from Negro Old Man's Pub the bar at the 4 Seasons and the bar at Intercontinetal the speakea... I visited Budapest in 1995 and 1996. The city of Budapest is very beautiful ESPECIALLY if you like old world charm. The Basillica was in the process of being restored when I visited...the difference between freshly polished brass and fresh paint and years of \grime\ was amazing. The Basillica is absolutely beautiful and a must-see. In my personal experiance I would suggest hiring tour guide for a day and then just walking around the city by yourself the next. You will be absolutely amazed ... More

You will be absolutely amazed at what you'll find.I was awed by the people there...so friendly and proud of their accomplishments. Even shop owners and street vendors were sweeping sidewalks and the edge of the streets....very clean; not like some other world tourist destinations. If you want to see the natural beauty of the country take a train ride out of the city. The countryside is even more beautiful than the city. I don't know how cheap things are there now but everything was very affordable when I visited.
