We loved Cairo and can't wait to go back!

Our experience in Cairo was wonderful. Everywhere we went in the city the people were friendly and helpful. They were especially happy to hear that we were Americans. Of course the street venders are obnoxious at times, but that is part of the Middle Eastern experience. If you can't deal with it, then go to Europe or stay in the US. GREAT TRIP

We went in Nov. 2007. We were going to drive ourselves, but quickly bagged that idea and hooked up with a tour company at the airport and arranged a hotel, driver/guide. Toured Cairo and Alexandria and then flew to Aswan and took a Nile River cruise with a private guide and then back to Cairo from Luxor. I wore a native outfit with my head covered and got no hassle. Mixed Feelings

In all of my travels, Cairo is the dirtest, depressing city I every had the pleasure to experience. Most of the buildings had no roofs (its some tax thing )and squalor is everywhere. Many of the streets are unpaved and the city is full of dust, especially if its windy. On a positive note the Pyramids of Giza and the Eygptian museum were excellent (King Tut exhibit the highlight) especially since we had an experienced Eygptologist as a guide. (an absolute must).
