Venezuela is gorgeous...beautiful and friendly people...the city, crowded, crime, same as the rest....no big deal...but go to the BEAUTIFUL Margarita Island and Angel Falls...it is to die for!!! Beautiful Caracas

Although Caracas does have its bad areas (what major metropolitan city in the US doesn't)the East side especially the south east part of caracas has immeasurable beauty. The mountains, chic cafes and shopping centers as well as the lively nightlife you will never be bored in Caracas! Visited Caracas many years ago. Had tour bus stoned and hit with water balloons,were told "Yankee go Home" and treated very poorly.City was dirty, crowded, and uninviting.Our tour hosts husband was supposedly an astrophysist (why would she have to work a tour bus) and could only tell us how superior their lifestyle was to ours and how great their President was. The only good thing was a tour to the ICET murano glass factory up in the mountians. Who would I recommend going there? No one that fee ... Read Full Review | Report This

Forget Caracas! GO to Margarita Island

Why is this article about Margarita but then asks about Caracas? The two are worlds apart. Caracas is mostly a dump, with 3 million of the 7 million living in shanty towns. The poverty makes it extremely dangerous, especially for tourists who don't know much about the area. On the other hand Margarita is quiet, peaceful and beautiful, with scenery ranging from desert to lush mountain, and great beaches. Most things are very very cheap, especially with foreign currency.
