I frequently travel to Venezuela. Chavez now rules with an iron fist. The political atmosphere in government offices is reminiscent of pre-war Germany. Supervisors live in fear of losing their jobs while party "red shirts" young party member have carte blanche. Gasoline is cheap $.17/gallon but decent hotels ie. Tamanaco is very expensive $280.00/night. I would not recommend Caracas to anybody for security reasons. Margarita Island on the other hand is very nice with inexpensive accomodations

i HAVE BEEN TO BOTH PLACES IN THE PAST YEAR, NOT IN THE 80s as other people say, NEW YORK was a dangerous place in the eighties, so these people are really outdated!! Caracas isnt the best city, but it is full of beautiful women and it is cheap, Rent a car and it ONLY COSTS 1 DOLLAR to fill up your tank! -SERIOUSLY IT IS UNBELIEVABLE, ISLA MARGARITA IS PARADISE, a great, clean, pristine beach that I would definitely would recommend! Also, you can get a meal in a decent restaurant for 10 dolla

Additionally, we met a couple from Europe who were held up at gun point at the beaches in Caracas -- a spot known for this sort of thing -- and we had everything we owned stolen from our vehicle in downtown Caracas. To top it off, a "friend" (who

Unfortunately, I am reading the October 13, 2007 a little late but for this person that writes the review of their experience in Caracas is very far from the truth and biased I believe against these region since he particularly mentioned South American countries.
I don't know what country you are from, but read on.......................
First of all, Chavez has never been a General, he's not that smart and although I think he's not good for this country, he was elected democratically. That there
