Bright, airy and stripped down to bare essentials, the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at the Ateneo de Manila University is modern minimalism put to the service of God. As the focus of worship, a solitary cross hovers over the main altar, rotating ingeniously to reveal both the crucified and the resurrected Christ. In an adoration room, worshipers sit on the floor, like Zen monks, while contemplating the divine mysteries. Somehow the clean, simple lines of the minimalist architecture seem particularly apt for a house of God.
