America's Most Beautiful and Historic City
Charleston is truly an exceptional city. No where else in the world will one find such an intriguing combination of history, architecture, natural beauty, and firendly people. It is no wonder that Charleston is consistently ranked among the top cities in the United States by such travel magazines as Conde Nast and Taravel & Leisure. For a city with a metro population of approximately one million, Charleston has been blessed with culinary treaures normally found only in cities such as New York, New Orleans, or San Francisco. Recreational activities abound with over 100 golf courses in the Lowcountry. And the beachcomber could spend 2 weeks in the Charleston area and explore a new beach every day, from the posh pampering at Kiawah Island to the laid-back style of Edisto or Folly. Charleston is also blessed with an arts scene which will satisfy any taste, from the World-Class Spoleto Festival USA each spring, to mega-concert events at the North Charleston Coliseum (Elton John, Billy Joel, Cher, Bette Midler, and Yanni have all performed there), to the Best of Broadway Series at Charleston's Performing Arts Center (recent shows include Cats, Hairspray, Les Miserables, The Producers, Aida, Mama Mia, and Rent). All of this in a perfect year-round semi-tropical climate make Charleston, South Carolina perhaps one of the most perfect vacation destinations in America. It is no wonder that its residents have been winners of "America's Most Friendly City" for the past ten years. Every one you meet in Charleston seems genuinely grateful to share their city with others! Take a stoll along the Battery. Drive, walk, or bike across the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America spanning Charleston's Harbor. Or simply relax while absorbing Charleston's history while on a carriage ride. Charleston's secret may be out, but this city is still a hidden gem!
