Charlottesville VA is a great vacation spot. It has many amenities you'd find in a larger city but is still a small town. There are many historical sights from Jefferson's Monticello to Civil War battlefields the beautiful University of Virginia campus to a quaint downtown pedestrian mall. Most surprising is the growing wine producing area in the Monticello \appellation\ with 30 wineries in some stunning settings. The wines are quite good and one winery I remember has a lovely dining area under the trees to enjoy their wines and delicious meals. There are also many small towns in the area with many opportunities for the antiques enthusiast. The beautiful Shenandoah Valley is less than an hour away. In winter there's skiing and always great sports at UVA.

Be prepared for bottleneck traffic (at a VERY fast pace) at times and it's a little difficult to navigate during rush hours and there are some signage that doesn't necessarily indicate the easiest way to get around. However once you find your way I would recommend it... More

Be prepared for bottleneck traffic (at a VERY fast pace) at times and it's a little difficult to navigate during rush hours and there are some signage that doesn't necessarily indicate the easiest way to get around. However once you find your way I would recommend it to anyone. There are also numerous places to stay at a variety of price ranges and the same for restaurants in and around the city.
