Patara Elephant Farm was simply amazing. Right from the beginning i felt welcome by the people. The elephants are well kept, and obviously very healthy, this makes you feel less hesistant, and assures you that you will be safe . By suggesting you wear the top and trousers the trainers wear, makes you feel involved from the start. The day was planned out beautifully and route was scenic, and untouched by tourists. Went to Bangkok in December and were fortunate to be able to get a flight to Chang Mai for two days. We got a private guide to take us around and skipped the formal itinerary and asked to have her show us what ever she could within the time period we had. It cost a bit more but we saw everything and didn't waste any time. You should visit the elephant camp and take an elephant ride into the jungle the short one is good enough. We got a private guide to take us around and skipped the formal itinerary and asked to have her show us what ever she could within the time period we had. It cost a bit more but we saw everything and didn't waste any time. You should visit the elephant camp and take an elephant ride into the jungle the short one is good enough. If you have time take a raft ride down the river and have lunch along the way. Visit a local tribe and see if you can see a tribe that is a bit off the beaten path as that is a better experience. Don't revert to bargaining as these people are so poor. Once you are home you will wish you spent way more money with the tribes and didn't try to get the best deal. You would pay more for a starbucks at home than buying a trinket from a tribe that you will value forever. Also your change is a fortune to them just give away your pennies. It is worth it. AND DON'T FORGET TO HAVE A THAI MASSAGE - OR SEVERAL.

I am unable to tell you because Tragically I was killed while crossing your deadly road I only went to get a newspaper and then your delay in providing me the medical care I needed demanding a huge sum of cash for a Medical Emergency and what kind of person with any type of morals wouldn't at least send a note of apology? My Mother was only 57 years old and was the sweetest and kindest person not just some foreigner I would not recommend Chiang Mai to anyone I cared for. ... More

We stayed at Baan Orapin B&B just across the road from the Ping River (www.baanorapin.com). It was a short walk to the footbridge crossing the river and into the heart of old Chiang Mai. The night market was the best! Small carts line the sidewalk every evening showing their wares. They are chock full of Thai arts and crafts at incredible bargain prices! In the center of the food court area was a stage where we saw a Muay Thai exhibition fight Thai dancers and children singers. We hired a taxi for one day and went to Doi Suthep and Wat Phra temple. I am at a loss for words to explain just how inexpensive Chiang Mai was. It amazing to be able to afford all the city had to offer. Dinner for 2 was about $20US lodging was about $60 taxi from the airport was about $8. The Thai people have such an extraordinary sense of beauty - everything was incredibly clean neat and stylish. I would recommend Thailand and especially Chiang Mai for absolutely everyone!
