If you can stomach the bloody violence, this is the place to come and watch a highly popular sport in the Philippines—cockfighting. Briefly described, the sport involves two gamecocks placed in the center of the dusty arena and left to fight it out until one succumbs to wounds inflicted by spurs tied to its opponent's legs. While this is taking place, the spectators (an almost all-male crowd) shout and growl and groan, depending on which cock they bet on. If you wish to place a bet, hand it to the collector, who is irreverently called "Christo."
