Padre Island National Seashore

Padre Island beaches aren't like Florida beaches, but they are unique, private, and great for families. I'm not a Texas native, but I've lived on the island for fifteen years and have found the residents to be friendly and helpful. I agree with the whole tar balls on the beach thing. What a mess. Southern hospitalilty? Not in Corpus Christi. If you're a Yankee, they make fun of how you speak, tell you to go home and are boorish as hell towards you. I lived in Corpus Christi for four years and met so many Texans who told me they had never left the state because, "There's nothing better than Texas, so why would I want to leave to go somewhere else?" You must choose the right time of year to go to the beach but padre island and mustang islane are great. Quiet and freindly not commercialized with small town atmosphere and great restuarants. I have been to many beaches and I would give this a 9 out of 10 ... Read Full Review | Report This

If you are looking for a great beach, this is not it! The water is brown and tar balls wash up on the beach and stick to everything. Especially your feet. The only person who'd think this is a desirable beach would be a Texan who's never seen a beach outside of Texas. South Padre, however, does offer a great beach and vacation! ... Love the laid back padre style

Great for families and fun. Clean, safe beaches and soooooo laid back. We went there every summer with the kids for years. A great spot for family reunions too.
