I was born and raised in Detroit. Moved to Florida for family reasons. Even after 10yrs, I miss the atmosphere of a big city, always something to do. But I have visited with friends (their first time there) and I am embarassed by the continued blight that exists. Yes, Greektown and the Fox theatre are is great (Comerica Park), but I don't remember having to drive through so much garbage to get there. The house I grew up in is now in a neighborhood surrounded by burned out houses and vaccant lots. My Catholic high school moved from the Harper Woods area because of the neighborhood. I spent 50 years defending my home town, but it gets more difficult everytime I visit there.
