Dresden, Germany, is in the eastern part of the country, not far from the Czech Republic and Poland. The city was settled in approximately 600 B.C.
Many of the attractions in Dresden can be found in the Old Town section of the city. The historic buildings in Dresden that survived World War II are the most popular tourist attractions. Many buildings in Old Town are being restored, the Semper Opera House was destroyed in 1945, but now is elegantly restored, Zwinger Palace is another historic building that is home to several museums.
One of the Dresden hotels that were rebuilt from the ground up is the Kempinski Hotel Taschenbergpalais, located in-between the Semper Opera House, the Church of Our Lady, and the Residential Castle, the Kempenski is an example of baroque architecture and decor. Parquet floors from the United Kingdom, tapestries from France, and chandeliers from Spain adorn the guest rooms for a feeling of European luxury.
Situated along the banks of the Elbe is the Westin Bellevue. The Westin provides what is known as the Canaletto's view of the Dresden skyline. The guestrooms are decorated in the baroque style, and have flat-screen plasma televisions and kitchenettes.
