Although the cavernous hallways and lobby felt a little like "The Shining," this is a gem of a hotel. The story goes that years ago the owner had the foresight to travel down to the Faulkland Islands, collect all the leftover machinery and scrap metal from the war, bring it back to Ireland and sell it for a fortune. Although the cavernous hallways and lobby felt a little like "The Shining," this is a gem of a hotel. The story goes that years ago the owner had the foresight to travel down to the Faulkland Islands, collect all the leftover machinery and scrap metal from the war, bring it back to Ireland and sell it for a fortune. With his new found money he bought a huge swath of land outside Dublin and built his dream hotel, complete with a pro-style golf course and heli-pad. The staff is very courteous and there are a couple of good dining and drinking options on the sprawling campus. The only downside is that the hotel is a good 30 minute drive from downtown. This place is great if you really, really want to get away from Dublin.
