From the moment I disembarked off the train in Edinburgh and looked up to Holyrood Castle sitting majestically on the hill I knew this was going to be a magical place....And it was over and over again....from the historical sites the genuine kindness of the people and the vibrant city life made this an absolute 5 STARS experience!!!...Its been many years since I visited this amazing place and I've traveled to many foreign destinations. Loved the castle; the Mary King's Close tour was awesome! Walking up and down the Royal Mile was interesting. I loved the outdoor vendors who set up on the sidewalks - got some beautiful jewelry that was very reasonable (hard to think of a deal for Americans whose exchange rate hurts!) We also went on a ghost tour that was fun. For a big city the people were so friendly. Can't wait to go back. May be my favorite city in the whole world.... More

Beauty and a Wee Dram. Two trips to Scotland and it's Capital City leave me waiting for next fall 2009 for the Gathering and the Military Tattoo. Great people and food. Stay in a Bed&Breakfast the owners become like family in most cases. Try The Crammond Inn fantastic food and a great walk along the River Almond. The Royal Mile takes several days and a couple of memory chips for the camera to do it right. Stay out of the cheap suvie joints but go to Geoffry Highland Crafts at the very top of the ... More

Stay out of the cheap suvie joints but go to Geoffry Highland Crafts at the very top of the mile next to the Castle Esplanade. Artgalleries on Princess Streetm museumsParliment closes off the Mile a cab tour. LOVE that city and the country. Am I a Scot? You damn betcha Laddie.

We've been there many times and never tire of it. Unfortunately the US dollar doesn't go very far so it is a bit expensive; but not too expensive for us Scotch drinkers. You haven't celebrated New Year's Eve until you've been to Hogmanay (look it up). We've done it twice. What a party! ... More
