Eid al Adha at Al-Aqsa Mosque

Temple Mount (Al Haram al-Sharif) , Next to Dome of the Rock

Jerusalem, Israel 97500

phone: +972 2 628 3292

Built in 715 AD, this is the world's third holiest Muslim site after Mecca and Medina. At the entrance, take a look at the bullet-marked pillar, the spot where King Abdullah of Transjordan was assassinated in 1951. The south side of the structure faces Mecca and contains seven columns made from Italian marble. Intricate stained glass windows installed by Suleiman in the 16th century, brighten the musty and dim mosque. "Al-Aqsa" meaning "the distant place," (from Mecca) as mentioned in the Quran (Muslim holy book) and Mohammad's Haddith (deeds or behavior as well as the teachings of Prophet Mohammad and his companions). A tour to the Temple Mount includes Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Dome of the Rock and the Islamic Museum.
