Hamburg

As a harbor city located in the far north of Germany, Hamburg has been known for centuries as the "gateway to the world." One of Hamburg's most famous sons, novelist Wolfgang Borchert, lovingly described the city as "more than a heap of stones, roofs, windows, beds, roads, bridges and street lamps. Lived and worked in Hamburg/Altona for 15 months in '98-99. Found the city and the people delightful. The work experience was pleasant. The city and surrounding regions are easily experienced by public transport and the villages and cities nearby Hamburg are great fun. I found it interesting how the city seemed to take on an entirely different look in the bright sunlight. For someone in the theater/music industry this is a good town to experience.... More

My daughter loves Hamburg because her Husband's family lives there and she has spent many enjoyable times there. She found the city very clean and public transportation easy to use even for someone who did not speak German. Her inlaws the Gasts were extremely hospitable .She found the people in shops and in social situations extremely kind and warm. She hopes to someday return if Life and Love allow.... More
