Evergreen is a mountain community unincorporated, but truly unique in it's mountain atmosphere of sophisticated living within a short drive of downtown Denver. If your looking for a mountain getaway and don't want to hassle with a trip out to the ski resorts Evergreen is your answer. Explore the historic downtown area with a wide variety of shops and restaurants. Stop in for a glass of wine at the Winery or explore the many crafts and arts on display. If your in for one of the best times on your trip check out the Little Bear world famous for it's live music and atmosphere straight out of an old western movie set. If you are still raring to go after the Little Bear Closes walk across the street and Bear Canyon Creek to Cactus Jack's for a nightcap before retiring to your room at any number of cabin rooms within walking distance. For a daytime adventure you can mountain bike at any number of the parks within a 5 mile drive. My favorite is Lair of the Bear a bit futher down Hwy 74 on the right on the way to Morrison. If you pick the right time of the year you can walk over to Evergreen Lake and stroll around this stream fed mountain lake or in the winter ice skate at the Lake House. If you want to catch some golf you can try your hand stepping over Elk poop at the Evergreen Golf Course which has one of the topped ranked 19th hole experiences in Colorado. I suggest to all visitors to drive up Upper Bear Creek past the golf course and look at the expansive old money mansions built during the 20's and 30's along scenic Bear Creek. If you have some extra time you can grab a road bicycle rental and ride all the way up to Echo Lake at the foot of Mt. Evans on Squaw Pass, be careful on descent. Great night life, great food, great wine, biking, hiking, skating, or just exploring Evergreen will be one of your favorite stops on your Colorado journey.
