1.I have been to Fez

I went to Fez during my college years. I had been backpacking across Europe and decided to make the trek from Spain over the Strait of Gibralter to Tangiers where I caught a bus to Fez. Surreal. Enchanting. One of the best memories I have ever had. Visiting the medina was like stepping into 2000 years ago. The open markets.......the smell of spices in the air.......I will never forget it. I hope I get to go back and take my husband to share in the experience.... More

I've been to Morocco twice. I spent a great deal of my time travelling between Fez and Taza. I was also in Marrakech for some time. It was a 2 month trip to a most beutiful and friendly country. The people are so very nice and welcoming. I would not reccomend travelling the medinas alone. Even the smaller ones are difficult to get around if you don't know where you are going. For those that haven't been to Morocco and have no idea what a medina is there? A large area containing a number of different alleys and \streets\. By a number I mean LOTS AND LOTS. Very easy to get lost unless you have a guide or happen to be travelling with someone who speaks fluent French or Arabic. You wont find english signs or many english speaking people unless you stay in places that cater specifically to western tourists. Part of the beauty of the country is going off the beaten path. Some of the things saw and experienced would not have been seen or experienced if I was on a tour with a group. I would NOT reccomend going in the summer if you can avoid it. It's hard to appreciate such beauty when the mercury hits 115F as it did most days during my second trip. Anyone that says dry heat is different/better has NOT been to Fez or Marrakech in August. I spent a while in Agadir too. A beach city. The heat is tolerable even in the summer. It's absolutely stunning. The water is the perfect temperature at the beach (YEAR round!!). My trip cost close to $2000 (3 years ago) and was well worth it. I can't wait to go back. Take my advice though. Get a guide (carefully picked because there are scammers) and go actually SEE Morrocco. It will be well worth it. I promise! Also look for my reviews of Agadir Marrakech and (if they have it) Taza.

The city is one of the world's surreal experiences. The souks are among the best and certainly the most fascinating. The Palais Jamail is a magical hotel with glorious views over the old city. Great food and the best rug merchant in Morocco. I have been twice and look forward to more visits.... More

I loved Fez. It is a beautiful city. We stayed at a wonderful hotel overlooking the city. In the early hours of the morning as the last stars disappeared in the sky we heard Muezzin's all over the city praying. It was an amazing thing to hear. The shopping was fun but not for the faint hearted you have got to barter with gusto... More
