Fremont has grown from 56000 in 1956 to 260000 in 2008.; from one high school to its own district from an agrarian economy to the northern edge of silicon valley. Yet it retains the same identity of the original 5 small townships that incorporated in 1956. Ideally located for commutes to San Francisco or San Jose and the corporate headquarters to be found in those cities. Yet it retains the same identity of the original 5 small townships that incorporated in 1956. Ideally located for commutes to San Francisco or San Jose and the corporate headquarters to be found in those cities. Stanford University Cal at Berkeley Santa Clara University and San Jose State University surround the city and provide outstanding cultural venues. It still has small town America values with the advantage of visionary leadership that is reflected in the cityplanning.
