We spent two nights here on each end of our trip to Japan. Fukuoka is a thriving modern clean and safe city. The city has a large international airport that caters to travelers. The city also has a great subway system that stops at the airport and the main inter-city rail station where you can catch Japan's terrific bullet trains. We stayed in reasonably priced small hotels that were clean and friendly. There are many major commercial and shopping areas. The city sits by the ocean on the west coast of Japan providing many beautiful vistas across the water and back over the nearby mountains. The city has many major sports venues including the Yahoo! Dome Japan. Be sure to spend time at the city's huge park and lake in the center of town for jogging boating dining a picnic or a leisurely stroll. It is beautiful at night with the lights of the city skyline as a backdrop.
