I went to visit Gettysburg in May of 2004 with a girlfriend who lives in Maryland. We stayed at a 200 year old hotel called the James Getty Hotel. Very nice, very atmospheric.
The town is charming, interesting shops and restaurants. May was a good time to go there, as it wasn't inundated by tourists yet, but the weather was warm and sunny.
