This city is Super Duper overrated! People who live in this area are either college students small families (working class) and retirees. The entire County of Santa Barbara is SLOWWWW. There is not much to do in Goleta. However you can ride your bike. Go to the beach or take drive to the popular areas of Santa Barbara. Nothing is really going on in this city. Think of it as a stopping point. You have wine country to the north: )...Los Angeles is 1 1/2 away. Santa barbara is close. Santa maria an... More

So fill up your tank of gas watch the sunset and dont stay in Goleta too long. U may enjoy Santa Barbara or Monterey County ALOT better : )

I lived in Goleta CA from 1979 until 2000. Goleta Beach is the beach I hung out at every day. It's nice to walk down the shore and also soak up the sun. There is a nice play area for the kids with swings and all that stuff. Picnic tables are also availabe as well as a big covered picnic area for large groups. Horseshoe pits are on one side of the parking area.Going in the water........ Make sure you wear an old bathing suit (this goes for all beaches in and around the Santa Barbara Goleta ar... More

Horseshoe pits are on one side of the parking area.Going in the water........ Make sure you wear an old bathing suit (this goes for all beaches in and around the Santa Barbara Goleta area) have available to you a bottle of baby oil or something similar to take off the natural seepage tar that is in the water and on the shoreline. We never wore good sandals or shoes as they DO get ruined. There is no way that one trip down to shore won't leave the tar on your feet or shoes. TRUST ME ON THIS!Fishing on the pier or just walking along it is fun and free. It's fun to see what the fishermen bring in. Fancy gear is not necessary. Many people just tie fishing line around a soda can and fish away. Sounds funny but it works. There is a very nice seafood restaraunt right on the beach. Locals love it and so did I. They have a full cocktail bar with seating both indoors and out. Sunsets are beautiful.Go and enjoy. Now that I live in Montana the only thing I miss in California is the beach. I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours on Goleta Beach and my daughter and I made many memories there. In fact I still remember going to that beach when I was a toddler up until I was around 4.
