Just came back from Cruise and I liked Freeport better than Nassau. The cruise ships come into the busy part of Nassau, in Freeport it is right off the ship. If you like to shop. Although both are beautiful, I enjoyed the time in Freeport better. Not so hectic.... More

Nealry two years ago my sister and I went to Grand Bahama Island Freeport. We had a ball. We stayed in a beautiful room with a full kitchen. the hotel staff was great, the locals were very frendly. The one issue we did have was quickly taken care of my the head of the hotel. It is not crowded very peaceful and serene. the only thing I will not do there again will be ride on the glass bottom boat. I was already afraid of water, this has solidified that. Great place for couples and singles. One last thing, if you are a nervous person as we weren't. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR RESORT! Only because for some it will be culture shock. They are also still recovering from a hurricane some years back

if you know the game then you can play without the stress.
First. Don't expect to be catered to. It's everyone for themselves. Newlyweds should consider the Poconos or other places which cow tow to you due to your new marrage status. Freeport is for the layed back. Save money by using the local bus. Eat only at the market place across from the Lucaya hotels. Freeport is for the layed back. Save money by using the local bus. Eat only at the market place across from the Lucaya hotels. Speaking of which "only" stay at The Sheraton Grand Bahama which is part of "OUr Lucaya" with an ocean view. (That's a must!) Now you have the ocean to wake up to and an unbelieveable hotel pool. Across the street is the straw market with inexpensive (compared to hotel ) restaurants. The Greek one is probably one of the best for prices and no hustle and bustle. Instead of going to the downtown casino you have a smaller version right across the street. Again the more you go to Freeport the more it feels like your own home town. Don't expect nor will you get service. Expect nothing in that department and it will cut down on your vexation and stress. Bring your mags and extra viagra and enjoy the moment. Dan dbach102@aol.com
P.S. If you want to splurge think about the scuba course....for extra money they will film your adventure. It's an experience you won't forget and with the film you can bore your neighbors and in-laws but you will love watching it over and over and over again. :)

In the Bahamas gratuity is included everywhere. This is why the service is so bad. They rely on tourism to survive and due to gratuity being added to all food and beverage service they do not have to be courteous or efficient. The islands are beautiful srevice is terrible these are just island people looking for the visitors money they have no clue as how to provide good service and work for it. Remember if you go...expensive drinks bad service and gratuity always included.... More
