We rented a condo for 9 days and it was wonderful. Very relaxing. Yes in the town it's all jewelry shops but there is so much more than Georgetown. Sting Ray city is one of the most amazing things I've ever done. The turtle farm was great. We hired a tour guide and went bird watching. We did a lot of walking on the beach hung around the beach swam in the ocean and relaxed. I would love to go back. The people were very friendly and helpful. 7.What Happened to the Beautiful Little Island?

That's the question the Barefoot Man asks in one of his songs. Because of the multi-story monsters like the Ritz Carlson that now line the beach beautiful seven mile beach is being transformed to another \Miami\. That's the question the Barefoot Man asks in one of his songs. Because of the multi-story monsters like the Ritz Carlson that now line the beach beautiful seven mile beach is being transformed to another \Miami\. Shame on the government of Grand Cayman for allowing such a disfiguration of their beautiful island. My wife and I have been going annually to Grand Cayman in March and the changes have so shocked and disappointed us. Yes Grand Cayman is still very nice but nothing like it was years ago. I truly believe that once Cuba is open to US citizens Grand Cayman will lose many of its visitors. All beaches are public and one can set up their blankets or towels right in front of the Ritz if they so desire. But why do that when all one has to do is walk a little further up the beach to a very nice public beach next to the Governor's house and just two properties up from the Westin. If one wants to stay at a hotel on Grand Cayman as opposed to a condo the Westin is the place to stay. Forget the Ritz with its narrow beach and stay at the Westin. You will be glad you did so. All should know that the Hyatt has given up the lease to both its properties and is no longer on Grand Cayman. There are superb restaurants on Grand Cayman such as the Warf Pappagallo's Casanova's and many many more including a little place favored by the locals called Champion House II. If you go be sure to take a trip to Stingray City. There are many boat operartors who can take you there but we like Capt. Crosby. He can be found in the telephone book. Stingray City is a unique place and can only be found in Grand Cayman. One should also note that Grand Cayman is very expensive. The US dollar is worth only 80 cents Cayman. So if you buy something for $16 Cayman and give the store a $20 US bill they will take it and say thank you. Throughout the island US currency is accepted and does not have to be changed in Cayman dollars.

There are a ton of things to do on Grand Cayman. Have a picnic at the beach at Smith Cove and then check out the nearby art gallery. Have a look at the topography at the museum display. Drive up to the Lighthouse for lunch. Watch them feed the sharks at Breakers. Head up to Rum Point and swing in a hammock. Be daring and try out East End. Go snorkeling and scuba diving. If you stopped at the jewelry stores in Georgetown thinking that wasCayman then you missed a royal treat. My personal favorite spot is where I called home. Frank Sound - the prettiest place on the island.

Don't judge the Grand Caymans by Georgetown! There is much more to see and to do if you get out of the hustle and bustle of the city. Try the East End where life is relaxing yet there are many things to do. Morritts Tortuga Club and Morritts Grand are the places to stay if you want to relax and yet have a night life. You can never say you've \been to GC\ if you come in on a cruise ship. You can say you've \stopped there\. This is something that we have and will continue to do on an annual basis. And while you're there....don't miss the Atlantis. If you are not a diver but want to see the underwater world and the greatest wall that divers rave about - do this! And don't forget to stop at Tortuga Rum. Its the best rum in the world and the rum cakes are awesome!
