WELL, MY FAMILY IS FROM GUATEMALA SO WHENEVER WE FROM THE MANY TIMES WE'VE BEEN TO GUATE. WE'VE GOTTEN TO SEE THE MANY SIDES OF THIS AWESOME COUNTRY! U CAN TOWARDS THE EAST AND BE IN RIO DULCE AND LIVINGSTON WHERE THE AREA IS VERY CARIBBEAN AND THERE ARE A LOT OF WATER ACTIVITIES TO TAKE PART IN. If you find yourself in Guatemala city, You need to try a few local restaurants. The hotel intercontinental is pricey compared to most hotels in the city, but it has a wonderful lunch buffet with hundreds of things to choose from. Mexica Lindo is across the street from the intercontinental-try the Mocajete Arriero. The Aztec Grill has great peruvian food-just like Peru!!! Don't forget Kacoa's for authentic Guatemalan cuisine. A brief visit to Antigua and Guatemala City

I took advantage of a greatly discounted fare to fly to Guatemala from Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Spirit Airlines last August. I spent two nights in Antigua, a favorite destination for visitors, and visited the capital for half a day, traveling on local buses. I found the people to be friendly and hospitable. Guatemala is a fantastic destination. I would highly recommend going to Tikal. Its a little pricey for tourists in comparison with what they charge for Guatemaltecos, but still completely worth it! The people are fantastic and welcoming. Just like in any city, it is important not to be flashy and overgenerous. You will most likely stand out.
