3.A brief visit to Antigua and Guatemala City

I took advantage of a greatly discounted fare to fly to Guatemala from Ft. Lauderdale FL on Spirit Airlines last August. I spent two nights in Antigua a favorite destination for visitors and visited the capital for half a day traveling on local buses. I found the people to be friendly and hospitable. I had a lovely room with private bath in Antigua one of a group of rooms surrounding a covered garden for $25 a night. I traveled the 25 miles to and from the capital on the local \chicken buses... I took advantage of a greatly discounted fare to fly to Guatemala from Ft. Lauderdale FL on Spirit Airlines last August. I spent two nights in Antigua a favorite destination for visitors and visited the capital for half a day traveling on local buses. I found the people to be friendly and hospitable. I had a lovely room with private bath in Antigua one of a group of rooms surrounding a covered garden for $25 a night. I traveled the 25 miles to and from the capital on the local \chicken buses\ for about a dollar each way. The internet cafe across the street from my hotel charged the equivalent of one cent per minute. I read many warnings about walking in Guatemala City at night and didn't try it. But people were out and about in Antigua until the late hours both locals and tourists and it seemed quite safe.Numerous tour companies in Antigua offered very inexpensive tours to nearby attractions and volcanos and even to capitals of adjoining countries.I hope to return soon.

WELL MY FAMILY IS FROM GUATEMALA SO WHENEVER WE FROM THE MANY TIMES WE'VE BEEN TO GUATE. WE'VE GOTTEN TO SEE THE MANY SIDES OF THIS AWESOME COUNTRY! U CAN TOWARDS THE EAST AND BE IN RIO DULCE AND LIVINGSTON WHERE THE AREA IS VERY CARIBBEAN AND THERE ARE A LOT OF WATER ACTIVITIES TO TAKE PART IN. If you find yourself in Guatemala city You need to try a few local restaurants. The hotel intercontinental is pricey compared to most hotels in the city but it has a wonderful lunch buffet with hundreds of things to choose from. Mexica Lindo is across the street from the intercontinental-try the Mocajete Arriero. The Aztec Grill has great peruvian food-just like Peru!!! Don't forget Kacoa's for authentic Guatemalan cuisine. If you get a chance- a trip to Antigua is a MUST. It is a historic Spani... More
