I was just in Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City last December. I much preferred Hanoi but HCMC was nice too. What the other reviewer said is true, the Vietnamese people are surprisingly friendly. We seemed to make friends everywhere we went though I find most people are nice no matter where in the world I go. Food is a top priority for me and it seems to be a country where you just cannot have a bad meal. That will probably change as the country becomes more westernized, so go soon. Just one word o ... I've been there three times also in 1994, 2000, and 2006. People are SO nice, and the food is amazing. Good prices on hotels. In the city, some things may be more expensive, but that is expected since there are more tourists who stay in the city... I've found many things outside for much less. Surprisingly the major beaches and waters over there are so beautiful and quiet! There are so many beach resorts if you end up going out of the city.
