My husband and I have made two trips to Oahu in the past year.  Wakiki and Honolulu are very crowded and the traffic is awful.  Invest in a good map of the island and city.  Parking in the city is also a challenge.
Take a drive around the rest of the island.  Less traffic and the mountains and beaches are breathtaking.  Laniki Beach is beautiful.  North Shore area is also a must see.  Take one day and go windward side and another day go leeward.  Take the hike up Diamond Head and do stop along the Pali Highway (63) and take in the Pali Lookout.
Use Hawaiian Air to visit other islands on day trips.  Fares are around 125.00 round trip.  Maui is very nice.  Good day trip.
I would also recommend you give birth to a child that grows up and moves to Honolulu like I did.  They are the best tour guides.  See you in december Mike!!!
