It’s 7:00 a.m. and it is at this time that the city awakens. Somebody told me if you want to feel the pulse of this town visit any of the restaurants that serve breakfast early in the morning. It has been said that Indore can probably qualify as the food capital of India or at least central India. The mouthwatering delicacies that can be savoured in eateries all over the city known for its old textile mills and hardworking people are legendary. What makes the food scene in Indore really different is the highly varied and unusual fare on offer.‘Chappan dukan’ which literally means 56 shops is a lane lined with eateries that are stocked with delicacies found mostly in Indore. And if you do not manage to get time to feast during the day sample some the yummy local taste at 'Sarafa' which is a jewelry market all day but turns into a food street by nightfall. There are also quite a few good hotels to stay in at good reasonable rates. Hotels like Saayaji Fortune Landmark and Sreemaya offer a world-class ambience and service apart from some brilliant food options. There are a few historical sites too in and around Indore. The one which impressed me the most was Mandav which is also called ‘Mandu’. Situated some 100 km south of Indore these ruins were once romantic hideouts for King Bhadur Shah Jafer. No wonder the king loved it so much that he made so many palaces around for him to enjoy quiet time with his queen(s).Indore is also well connected by road rail and air with all major cities in the country. My visit to Indore was one experience that I will never forget. The city is a perfect representative for a new emerging India.
