I always tell people that Isle of Palms is my get away spot. I've been going there since 2001 when my classmate moved there. I ask her to take me to the nicest beach there and she took me there and now I'm forever hooked!... More

Seabrook and Myrtle BeachWe've been going to IOP Wild Dunes actually for about 12 summers now. We now own a condo there and we think the island is great. The beach has been recently replenished and is like 100 yards deep at high tide. And the proximity to Charleston and to the mainland town of Mt. Pleasant is the key. The island is quiet and beautiful but 10 minutes across the bridge and you are in Mt. Pleasant which has everything you can want to find in terms of restaurants shops golf movies e... More

Pleasant which has everything you can want to find in terms of restaurants shops golf movies etc. And then in 10-15 min more you can be in Charleston. Kiawah lack a shore side town like Mt. Pleasant and is a much further drive from Charleston. And further away in general for anyone coming from Atlanta or other points north or northwest. And Myrtle Beach is a bit too commercial for us. Check out IOP and the resort of Wild Dunes. Our condo is for rent at www dot hyman dot us. Yes that is a dot us address not dot com.

There is a reason that the Isle of Palms isn't crowded - that's the way they want it. I grew up in Charleston and I can tell you that they never wanted big growth on the Isle. That's why there is little parking and limited beach access to the public. Sullivan's Island is the same way. I was shocked when the Wild Dunes got approval to be built. Charleston doesn't want to become another Myrtle Beach. People really don't go to Charleston for the beaches. After Hurricane Hugo most of the beach ... More

and althoughthe college has a great beach house on the IoP it never felt like I was going to school at the beach. It's less crowded and doesn't have that \tourist\ feeling. We rent a house there every couple of years ocean front or 2nd row and it's always a peaceful enjoyable experience. Being so close to the holy city is a wonderful bonus. Patriots Point good golf courses the city market the battery it's all wonderful and mostly unspoiled by over-commercialization.... More
