Lived there for 4 1/2 years and loved it....1993-1997 
Living in Turkey was a unique pleasure.  Living in Izmir was a treat!  The beauty of the city, the wonderful restaurants, the friendly people, and the modern aspect of this city compared to areas outside the city limits are all things I remember dearly.  I have local friends I am still in contact with and one day I plan to visit.  If you're into history, the ruins of the Roman Empire are abundant.  Izmir was the ancient city of Smyrna.....(Check your bible).  There is so much rich history and Christian history in the area.  

Do I forget to mention the beaches?  Not at all.  Cesme, Kusadasi, Bodrum, Antalya.  Beautiful areas that one MUST visit.  The dollar is strong there compared to Europe.  The beauty is great.  So, plan a trip to Turkey (Izmir) and save some bucks.  It's great.
